Welcome to Vienna – and welcome to Bernhard Rennhofer!
My name is Bernhard, I’m a civil engineer and I love Vienna. But don’t worry, I’m not one of those civil engineers who can only read plans and talk about structural
mechanics for hours (well, I could do that too – but don’t worry, I’ll hold back). On my tours through Vienna, I take you into the fascinating world of historical and current construction sites – from a perspective that you’ve likely never experienced before.
How was the underground station at Karlsplatz built? Why is the main railway station leaning? What is really behind the remodelling of the parliament? And why does the DC Tower have four empty floors? Together we will take a look behind the
scenes of building construction and discover the secrets hidden in stone, steel
and sometimes even concrete.
But that’s not all: I’ll also explain how the buildings were planned and what construction challenges had to be overcome.
As a civil engineer, this aspects are close to my heart and I am looking forward to show you how fascinating the technical side of Vienna’s buildings is.
