Welcome to Vienna – and welcome to Bernhard Rennhofer!
My name is Bernhard, I’m a civil engineer and I love Vienna. But don’t worry, I’m not one of those civil engineers who can only read plans and talk about structural
mechanics for hours (well, I could do that too – but don’t worry, I’ll hold back). On my tours through Vienna, I take you into the fascinating world of historical and current construction sites – from a perspective that you’ve likely never experienced before.
How was the underground station at Karlsplatz built? Why is the main railway station leaning? And why is there a huge crack in the dome of the Hofburg? Together we will take a look behind the scenes of building construction and discover the secrets hidden in stone, steel and sometimes even concrete.
But that’s not all: I’ll also explain how the buildings were planned and what construction challenges had to be overcome.
As a civil engineer, this aspects are close to my heart and I am looking forward to show you how fascinating the technical side of Vienna’s buildings is.
